Let’s start with what is an Ioniq 5?

The highly anticipated 2022 Ioniq 5 is a full electric compact cross-over that is similar in size to the new 2022 Tucson. In this Blog, we will go over everything we know about the 2022 Ioniq 5.  If you need more information about EV and the terminology, you can check out our “Electrified Center” here.

The Ioniq 5 is the first of many EV’s to take advantage of Hyundai’s new Electric Global Modular Platform or e-GMP for short.  With a 3000mm wheelbase, the Ioniq 5 has pushed the wheels as far to the outside as possible, allowing for a spacious interior.  This interior boasts a truly flat floor in the passenger compartment which makes the interior even more useable. At 3786L of passenger and cargo volume, it has more interior space than a Ford Mustang Mach-E or a Volkswagen ID.4.

The Ioniq 5 has many unique features, such as Vehicle to Load (V2L). This allows you to power small appliances such as a small microwave, TV, small fridge, coffee maker, toaster or even level 1 charge another EV.  Imagine your next camping trip and being able to unwind watching a movie under the stary sky, then waking up in the morning to freshly brewed coffee and a warm breakfast, all powered by your Ioniq 5.

The Ioniq 5 will be available in either Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and standard or long range battery packs. The standard battery pack is 58kWh and the long range is 77.4kWh.  What do these numbers mean?  To put things simply, the standard range with RWD will go an estimated 354km on a full charge.  The long range RWD is rated at 488km and the AWD version is rated at 414km.  Range is one thing with an EV, but charging speed can be a huge factor as well. The Ioniq 5 has you covered there with industry leading level 3 charging from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes.  You can also add 109km of range in as little as 5 minutes.

How quick is it?

The standard range RWD has a 125kW electric motor rated at 168HP and 258lb-ft of torque.  This equates to a 0-100km/h time of 8.5 seconds. Moving to the long range RWD, you get a 168kW electric motor with 225HP, 258lb-ft of torque and a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds.  For the individual looking for the best performance, the long range AWD models offer a 239kW electric motor producing  320HP, 446lt-ft of torque and a very respectable 5.1 seconds 0-100km/h.
